Wwe No Mercy 2k14
When a match is built on the idea of being a classic battle of the behemoths, a war to settle the score, there are certain expectations.
There's so much to like about WWE 2k14 but at the same time there's still underlying factors this hold the series back, enough for people to say 'No. WWE 2k14 is not the best since No Mercy'. WWE 2K14 is a professional wrestling video game developed in a collaboration between Yuke's and Visual Concepts, and published by 2K Sports for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the first game published by 2K Sports since Take-Two Interactive gained the license from THQ in a bankruptcy filing.
At SummerSlam, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar brawled around ringside, ending with a massive powerslam through the announce table by the Monster Among Men. The chaotic nature of that Fatal 4-Way match, also involving Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe, rightly led fans to believe the clash between Strowman and Lesnar at No Mercy would follow suit.
Fans expected a brawl but were instead treated to a straight wrestling match that did not suit either man's strength.
A slow, plodding match whose main event aura dissipated the moment the bell rang, it failed to capture the imagination of the fans in Los Angeles.
Part of that can be attributed to a thoroughly disappointing performance from Lesnar. The Beast never appeared to be as invested in the match as he was during the build, while Strowman's weaknesses at this still relatively early point in his career were exposed.

That Strowman delivered three finishers of his own before falling to a single F-5 did not help matters, either.
A woefully booked match that hurt Strowman, did nothing to make Lesnar look any more beastly than he typically does and disappointed fans capped off what was otherwise a quality show.
Rating: *½
WWE No Mercy 2017 featured Brock Lesnar defeating Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns topping John Cena in two of the biggest matches in company history.YouTube data (h/t Fightful) indicates that Strowman may be WWE's biggest current draw, and data from a recent episode of Raw also suggests that he is generating more interest among fans than both Cena and Reigns. WWE undoubtedly missed an opportunity to capitalize on Strowman's popularity and crown him the Universal Champion, and it looks like the company didn't even ensure that his red hot streak will continue on Raw.
Many of Lesnar's matches don't last very long (see: WrestleMania 33 and Great Balls of Fire), and Strowman came out of No Mercy looking like a very weak challenger in comparison to Goldberg, a surprising turn of events given how great of a job WWE had done in building up Strowman prior to No Mercy.
The Cruiserweight Division May Be Coming To An End
There continue to be hints that the Cruiserweight division as we know it is coming to an end, the latest being Enzo Amore's surprising victory over Neville at No Mercy.
It's widely believed that Enzo was moved to 205 Live to combat the show's poor viewership, but was he really moved to the show at all? You could argue that Enzo is still primarily a member of the Raw roster given his frequent appearances on Raw and his recent match against The Miz, which is just the latest sign that the Cruiserweight division could be merging with the main roster. In recent months, that has been the trend as a number of main roster stars have shown up on 205 Live.
There was Sasha Banks and Alicia Fox, Titus O'Neil, Enzo, and most recently, The Fashion Police, all of which have had a clear presence on a 205 Live show that is beginning to look more like Main Event or Superstars. Enzo is likely boosting viewership for 205 Live because he's a much bigger mainstream star than anyone other Cruiserweight (and a proven draw at that), and his consistent appearances on both Raw and 205 Live signify a drastic change to the Cruiserweight division.
With more main roster stars finding their way to 205 Live and Enzo spearheading that charge, perhaps the Cruiserweight division will soon merge with the main roster and blur the line between the two brands.
Raw's Midcard Still Needs A Lot Of Work
As much as we have have praised the recent booking of WWE's main event scene (and rightfully so), it's caused many fans to overlook the poor booking of the midcard division.
That was quite evident at No Mercy, which really only featured one long-term midcard rivalry in Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt, a feud and a match that left more than a lot to be desired. In its quest to make Reigns vs. Cena and Lesnar vs. Strowman as big as possible, Raw essentially neglected the entire midcard, leaving marquee stars, like The Miz, and rising ones, such as Elias, without anything substantial to do.

Raw viewership had been strong in recent months due to the drawing power of top stars like Cena, Lesnar and Strowman, but with both Cena and Lesnar possibly set to take extended hiatuses, there will now be a renewed focuses on WWE's midcard stars, who are now forced to become a much bigger piece of the Raw puzzle. When WWE overlooks stars like Wyatt, Balor and The Miz while its part-timers are around, the effects are felt most when those part-timers leave and stars like Wyatt don't exactly excel in higher-profile roles.
No Mercy exemplified why WWE must make a more concentrated effort to push its midcard stars on Raw because they are the lifeblood of the company when the likes of Lesnar and Cena are nowhere to be found. But if you watched No Mercy, you probably realized that Raw's midcard is next to nonexistent and that this will be more evident when those midcarders, like Wyatt and Balor, are forced up the card in the coming weeks and months.
Brock Lesnar Will Hold The Universal Title Until WrestleMania 34
Lesnar defeated Strowman to retain the Universal Championship, a questionable decision but one that makes it clear Lesnar will remain champion until WrestleMania 34.
The long-running belief is that Lesnar will hold the title until WrestleMania 34 and drop it there to Reigns in order to crown 'The Big Dog' as the new face of the company, and Lesnar likely just passed his toughest test at No Mercy. After all, Lesnar isn't advertised to appear at any WWE TV tapings for the remainder of the year, is not advertised for Raw's TLC pay-per-view next month and reportedly won't be returning until it's time for The Royal Rumble early next year.
That means that it is smooth sailing for Lesnar from here on out as 'The Beast' figures to have perhaps only one title defense between now and WrestleMania 34, likely at Royal Rumble in a match he's bound to win. That would accomplish WWE's goal of getting to Reigns vs. Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 with Lesnar having held the Universal Championship for roughly a year and 'The Big Dog' being the one who ultimately topples him.
The last and only time Lesnar faced Reigns was at WrestleMania 31, a pay-per-view that shattered a number of company records, and the hope is that Lesnar vs. Reigns II will do that once again, especially given how much Reigns' star power has grown since then.
John Cena Vs. Roman Reigns Is Likely One And Done
You got a sense from Cena vs. Reigns at No Mercy that the torch has finally been passed from one of WWE's most polarizing stars to another.
Reigns picked up the victory over Cena at No Mercy, and it certainly appears that Cena will be gone from WWE for the foreseeable future. Cena is reportedly scheduled to take a lengthy hiatus, perhaps to begin filming for his latest movie Bumblebee, and is not scheduled to wrestle at TLC next month, which means that 'The Champ' did the honors for Reigns on his way out.
Cena's uncertain future likely threw a wrench into any plans for Cena vs. Reigns II, even though there was plenty of money to be made with an extension of a rivalry between two of WWE's biggest stars. Some fans may not realize it now, but much like The Rock vs. Cena was, Cena vs. Reigns is a historic rivalry between two all-time great superstars, one that we'll look back at years down the road and realize how special it was.
It's not often that you get a feud between WWE's top two merchandise sellers, or in essence its top two stars, but that's exactly what we got at No Mercy, even though the feud appears to be one and done. Cena is the biggest draw the company has had in the last 15 years while Reigns is the man WWE is grooming to replace him and a pretty big draw as well, but with Cena potentially nearing retirement, WWE apparently felt the time was right to officially make Reigns 'the guy.'

There's no doubt that those within WWE realize that Cena may not be around much longer and that there may never be an opportunity to have Reigns defeat Cena while both are still in their prime. Although some hoped to see this feud continue, the passing of the torch is simple, yet effective booking, that means we likely won't get one more dream match between 'The Champ' and 'The Big Dog' because it's definitely Reigns' yard now.
